South Bay Lacrosse Club’s most popular off season training program, box lacrosse, is back! Originated in Canada, “box” lacrosse is played in a rink, 5-v-5 in addition to a fully padded goalie in a 4′ x 4′ goal. Box is fast paced and when played properly there is a heavy emphasis on various concepts; stick work, finishing, team work, physicality and transition.
“If I had my choice, I would have every player under the age of 12 play box lacrosse exclusively or at least a majority of the time. The number of touches of the ball and the ability to develop better stick skills in a game of box lacrosse far surpasses what happens on a field. Learning how to pass and catch in traffic, understanding how to shoot, and developing a sense of physicality are all positive traits developed by the box game.”
– Coach Bill Tierney, University of Denver, 6X NCAA Champion.
To help provide a positive experience, our programs will be broken up into four separate grade groups: “Ankle Biters” (K-1st grade), “Bobble Heads” (2nd-3rd grade), “Pee Wee” (4th-5th grade), and “Middle School” (6th-8th grade).
Given the nature of box, we are forced to cap rosters; selected groups are almost full. Please do not hesitate registering if your player is interested in participating.
